Edward Dillon

Ed Dillon enters his third year as an assistant coach for Nicholls, coaching the cornerbacks and assisting with special teams.

Last season, cornerback Bobby Felder earned first-team All-Southland after recording five interceptions and went on to sign a rookie free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings. Cornerback Chika Madu also earned first-team All-SLC as a return specialist. 

Dillon came to Nicholls after serving the previous two seasons at Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Ga. as the defensive backs coach/special teams assistant.

Prior to his stint with Tri-Cities, Dillon spent the 2007 season at Therrel High in Atlanta, Ga.  The New Orleans, La. native made his way to Atlanta after Hurricane Katrina, having evacuated there in 2005 and staying there since the storm.

Prior to his five-year exile from Louisiana, Dillon coached football and baseball for the New Orleans Recreational Department (NORD).  While working for NORD from 2001-05, Dillon mentored young men and emphasized the fundamentals of sports, sportsmanship and promoted physical activity.

From 1999-2000, Dillon was a defensive assistant coach at his prep alma mater, Edna Karr.  He volunteered his time to coach linebackers, while promoting a high level of academic standard to all players.

Prior to earning his bachelor’s from Grand Canyon University in 2009, Dillon was a defensive back at Nicholls from 1995-97. A three year letterman, he was a member of the 1995 team that went to the NCAA Playoffs after going 0-11 the previous season. After sustaining a neck injury early on in the1998 season, Dillon served as a student-assistant.

At Karr High School, Dillon picked up all-state, all-metro and all-district honors in 1993 along with being named the Louisiana 3A Defensive Player of the Year.  Dillon also led Karr to its first and only state championship in football, playing along side former NFL cornerback Patrick Surtain.

In addition to being a football coach, Dillon is also a certified emergency medical technician and worked as a fireman for the New Orleans Fire Department and the East Point Fire Department.

Dillon is married to former women’s Colonel basketball player, Raschelle Lawrence, and the couple currently resides in Thibodaux with their son, Rashad (13).
