Tylan Martin - Nicholls Football

Tylan Martin

Tylan Martin is in his second season as running backs coach with the Nicholls State University football program. He came to Nicholls in the summer of 2021 after holding the same position at the University of West Georgia.

During his first season with the Colonels, Martin helped lead a rushing attack that ranked top 5 in the nation in yards per game (246.7). With the success on the ground, running back Collin Guggenheim was a HERO Sports FCS Freshman All-American and Jerry Rice Award Finalist.

Prior to Nicholls, Martin coached the wide receivers at the University of West Georgia for a season before moving to the running back position. Under his tutelage, wide receiver John Hurst received first team All-Gulf South honors and later signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Before UWG, Martin coached at Millsaps College where he served as the wide receivers coach for two seasons. He joined the Majors after spending three years as the wide receivers coach at East Central Community College (ECCC) in Mississippi.

While at ECCC, Martin coached 2015 first team all-state and first team all-region receiver Kabion Ento, who signed with the University of Colorado, and currently plays for the Green Bay Packers. He also coached wide receiver Henry Murphy, who signed with Virginia Tech. In 2016, Martin coached first team all-state and first team all-region receiver Antonio Gibson who would sign to the University of Memphis and currently plays for the Washington Commanders.

Under Martin’s direction, ECCC’s receiving yards doubled from 912 in 2014, to 1800 in 2015 and the Warriors receiving touchdowns jumped from six in 2014 to 24 in 2016. Martin also helped lead ECCC to an 8-3 record in 2015, which was their first winning season and playoff appearance since 2001. He was also part of the 2015 and '16 South Division staff of the year.

A 2014 graduate of Jacksonville State, Martin earned his degree in exercise science and wellness while minoring in coaching. He was a standout receiver for the Gamecocks from 2009-11.
