Joey Brooks was hired as an Assistant Coach for Men's Basketball in July 2019 and returned to the staff in 2022-23.
Brooks made his way to Nicholls following a two-year stint with the Purdue men's basketball program, serving as a graduate assistant. While with the Boilermakers, he served on a staff that guided Purdue to a Big Ten Championship along with back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, including one Sweet Sixteen and one Elite Eight run. During that period, Brooks coached five All-Big Ten selections, two All-Americans and Carson Edwards, the Jerry West award winner for the nation's top shooting guard.
Prior to Purdue, Brooks is a 2013 graduate of Notre Dame, where he was a four-year letterwinner under head coach Mike Brey. He was a two-time member of the Big East Academic Honor Roll and was appointed by Brey to the Notre Dame Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Previously, Brooks spent a year with SAP as a Senior Analytics Specialist in addition to Pure Sweat Basketball (NBA skills trainer), the Santa Cruz Warriors (basketball operations associate), the Marketing Arm (content strategist), Krossover Intelligence (basketball specialist, account executive and business development assistant), John Lucas Enterprises (NBA / NCAA Player Development assistant) and IBM.
Notably, he has personally trained or assisted in training over 15 players currently on NBA/G-League rosters.
Brooks is a native of Houston, Texas, where he enjoyed a standout scholastic career at Strake Jesuit College Prep.
