Marko Majstorovic was named assistant coach for the Nicholls State University women’s volleyball team in 2014 after spending five seasons as the first assistant for the University of Memphis.
Over the 2014 campaign, Majstorovic helped guide the Colonels back to the Southland Conference Tournament for the first time since 2012. Nicholls doubled its overall win total from 2013 and more than doubled its 2013 conference win total, while playing with only one senior on the squad.
A native of Belgrade, Serbia, Majstorovic brings a wealth of volleyball knowledge to the Nicholls coaching staff and plays a key role in the program's on-court training, video analysis, blocking and defensive systems and international recruiting efforts.
Under Majstorovic's instruction, Memphis led Conference USA in blocking in 2008.
Majstorovic brings over 12 years of coaching experience to the Nicholls volleyball program, having worked as both a head coach and an assistant coach for youth and pro leagues in Serbia, as well as at the Division I ranks (at the University of Oregon and University of Memphis).
Since beginning his coaching career in 1998, Majstorovic has proven to be one of the top up-and-coming coaches in Serbia. After two years at Banjica Belgrade, he took over as the head coach for the Radnicki Volleyball Club's youth women's teams. He also assumed the assistant coaching position for the Club's A1 Pro League team. Majstorovic guided his U-17 youth women's squad to a state title, while helping the Pro League team to a second-place finish in 2000.
Majstorovic then spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons as an assistant coach to Jim Moore at the University of Oregon, before moving back to Serbia to take over as the head coach for the youth and senior women's programs at the Banovic Strahinja Volleyball Club. Majstorovic also served as head coach for the women's youth teams at Volley Star Belgrade Volleyball Club.
An accomplished player on the volleyball court, Majstorovic was tabbed the Best Outside Hitter in Serbian Pro A2 League in 1995 and hauled in the league's Best Defensive Player honors as a libero in 1996. His success in the Pro A2 League landed him an opportunity in the Pro A1 League -- Serbian volleyball's top-level -- with Partizan Belgrade. He earned his second Best Defensive Player award while with Dubocica Leskovac in 1997.
Majstorovic most recently took over as head coach of the Asics Memphis Metro U-16 Junior Olympic squad in the summer of 2009. In his first year at the helm of the U-16 club team, he led them to a Delta Region championship and won his second consecutive championship the following year with the club. Nine of Majstorovic's 10 players earned NCAA Division I scholarships and 10 continue to play collegiately.
Majstorovic earned a degree in physical education from Belgrade University in 2002 and went on to work toward a volleyball coaching degree, which he received from Belgrade Sports Academy in 2003.
