Nicholls Football Coaches Clinic Highlighted by Mark Carrier

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls Football Coaches Clinic is set to be held on Saturday, July 24 on campus, and will welcome former Colonel wide receiver and 2010 Louisiana Hall of Fame Inductee Mark Carrier as its guest speaker. Registration is open, and the cost will be $15 per coach or $10 a coach with a staff of four or more.

The all day program will have registration starting at 8 a.m. in Gouaux Hall. The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. with a staff introduction by Head Coach Charlie Stubbs followed by coaching skills presentations by Stubbs, Jeremy Atwell, Keith Uperesa and Chuck Hepola before breaking for lunch, which will be provided.

Coach Stubbs and his staff will be holding chalk-talk sessions during lunch.

“I'm really looking forward to spending quality time with the local coaches from all levels,” said Stubbs. “It is always good to learn from each other and get fresh ideas; we are fortunate to have many great coaches in the area.”

Mark Carrier will kickoff the afternoon session. Carrier, a native of Church Point, La., still holds many Nicholls receiving records including career marks such as receptions (147), yards (2,709) and receiving touchdowns (24).

A 1986 All-American and All-Gulf Star First Team selection, Carrier went on to being a third round selection by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1987 NFL Draft. Carrier played a total of 12 seasons in the NFL with his most prominent campaign coming in 1989 with the Bucs that led to a Pro Bowl selection. He caught a career-high 86 receptions for 1,422 yards and nine touchdowns in that season.

“We are excited to have Mark return to Nicholls and speak to the coaches attending our clinic,” said Stubbs. “I know with all of his experiences that Mark will have a positive message to share.”

After Carrier, the clinic will conclude with Bobby April Jr. speaking on the value of great special teams play.
