The Colonels will be looking to improve their home record to 5-1
THIBODAUX – After suffering its first loss in Southland play, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team will look to bounce back as the Colonels host Central Arkansas in a Southland divisional matchup on Wednesday night at Stopher Gym. Tipoff against the Sugar Bears is set for 6:30 p.m.
Nicholls (9-7, 2-1) is coming off its worst shooting performance of the season in the loss at Sam Houston, and scoring could be an issue once again as Central Arkansas (12-4, 2-1) features the Southland's top defense. The Sugar Bears come into the game with the top scoring (44.7 ppg), field goal percentage (.344) and 3-pt. percentage (.224) defense.
UCA is led by 2011 Southland Conference Player of the Year, Megan Herbert, who is averaging a double-double with 14.8 points and 10 rebounds per game. Herbert is currently the only player for the Sugar Bears scoring in double figures, followed by Courtney Duever (9.6) and Nakeia Guiden (8.4).
Despite their shooting woes last Saturday, the Colonels still lead the conference in 3-point (.353) and free throw (.762) percentage, and only trail Central Arkansas in overall field goal percentage (.404). One area that Nicholls has drastically improved on since conference play is turnovers, averaging only 11 per contest, which has resulted in a plus-8.3 margin in the three games.
Sumar Leslie led the Colonels on Saturday with 14 points and ranks second in the SLC at 16.2 points per game.
Alisha Allen, who is currently three blocks away from tying the all-time Nicholls record (69), added 12 points to her career total, putting her 75 shy of reaching 1,000.
Game time for the Nicholls/Central Arkansas matchup is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. A live video broadcast, courtesy of ThibodauxOnline.com, and live stats will be available.
