Dmitry Kozionov advanced to the championship on Sunday
BEAUMONT, Texas - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team competed in its second day at the Lamar Cardinal Classic with
Nico Mertens and
Dmitry Kozionov advancing to the championship rounds in singles, which will be played on Sunday.
In flight one, Mertens defeated Carl-Philip Lindqvist (Lamar) to go 3-0 in Pool B. He will face Louisiana-Lafayette's Jake Wynan, who won Pool A. After going 1-1 in Pool A on Friday, Damian Depotovski fell to Rob Lee (Lamar) 6-1, 6-1 in his only match of the day.
Kozionov remained undefeated in Pool B of flight two, picking up a 6-2, 6-2 win against Bruno Snyder (Lamar). The senior will take on Damian Farinola (ULL), who went 3-0 in Pool A. Also in Pool A,
Jamie Eccleton improved his record to 2-1 with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Boburjon Kamiljanov (UTSA).
For flight three,
James Russell lost his first match of the weekend, while
Manel Estruega fell to 1-2.
The Colonels went 1-3 in the doubles semifinals, with Estruega/Jeoffery Noblecourt advancing to the championship in flight two with an 8-5 victory. The duo will face Hunter Goertz/Mauricio Fasado (ULL).
