Nicholls will look to match its highest win total (14) in program history on Saturday
THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will look to build off its thrilling finish earlier this week as the Colonels try to claim its third straight victory on Saturday against Lamar. Tipoff at the Montagne Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Nicholls (13-10, 6-4) and Lamar (12-11, 4-5) will square off for the second time this season, with the Colonels defeating the Lady Cardinals, 70-64, just two weeks ago in Thibodaux.
LiAnn McCarthy put up a career-high 24 points in the victory as Nicholls snapped a six-game skid in the series.
The Colonels have won their last two matchups, defeating Stephen F. Austin on a last-second 3-pointer at home on Wednesday, which followed a road-win versus Texas State last Saturday. Senior
Sumar Leslie, who is second in the Southland in scoring (16.8 ppg), averaged nearly 25 points in the two wins while shooting 57 percent from the field.
Lamar also heads into the rematch on a two-game streak, picking up road wins against UTSA and Northwestern State. The Lady Cardinals' leading scorer, Kalis Loyd, lit up the scoreboard for 24 points in LU's last outing, but in the first matchup against Nicholls, the Colonles held her to 12 points on 4-of-13 shooting.
With the victory over Lamar, Nicholls inched closer to evening the all-time series, which sits at 17-13. The Colonels will be trying for its first victory in Beaumont since the 2001-02 season, when Nicholls picked up a 59-49 decision.
