Colonels to Take on First-Place Texas State

THIBODAUX  – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will conclude its Texas road swing on Saturday against Texas State as the Colonels look to pick up its fifth Southland victory by knocking off the West Division leading Bobcats. Tipoff at Strahan Coliseum is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Nicholls (11-10, 4-4) is coming off a seven-point loss at Corpus Christi on Wednesday, while Texas State (13-7, 5-2) is riding a four-game winning streak after defeating Stephen F. Austin. For the Colonels, Sumar Leslie scored 14 points to lead four double-digit scorers; however, Nicholls bench was outscored 24-9 in the loss.

The matchup features two of the three highest-scoring teams in the Southland with Texas State (13-7, 5-2) leading the league at 70.1 pgg, while Nicholls (11-10, 4-4) is third at 67.0 ppg. Both squads also feature the No. 1 and No. 3 scorers in the league, with Diamond Ford (18.9 ppg) leading the Bobcats and Leslie (16.0 ppg) pacing the Colonels.

Texas State leads the all-time series 34-7 and has won the last six contests. Nicholls, however, has already snapped three conference losing streaks this season that were seven games or longer.
