The Colonels will play four games this weekend at ULL
THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University softball team will complete its nine-game road swing this weekend with four games in the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette, starting on Friday against Southland-Conference foe, Stephen F. Austin. First pitch against the Ladyjacks is scheduled for 11 a.m.
On Saturday, Nicholls (4-11) will have a doubleheader, playing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 8:30 a.m. before taking on No. 12 ULL at 4 p.m. On Sunday, the Colonels wrap up the weekend against Kentucky at 10 a.m. A live audio broadcast will be available on ThibodauxOnline.com for Friday's and Sunday's contests.
Nicholls is coming off its first mercy-rule victory of the season, an 11-2 drubbing of Jackson State on Tuesday. The Colonels finished with 10 hits on the day and received a complete game in the circle from sophomore
Katie Moulder, her fifth of the season.
While senior
Ashley Ray continues to head the Colonel offense with a .422 batting average, junior
Leah Andrus stretched her hitting streak to six games after tallying a triple and a double on Tuesday. Andrus is on the brink of a .300 batting average (.292), looking to join sophomore
Kat Angeles (.325) and junior
Ashley Bertot (.320).
In the circle, Moulder leads the staff after upping her record to 3-4. Moulder currently ranks seventh in the Southland with 40 strikeouts and is 11th with a 3.88 ERA.
SFA (5-11) has lost four of its last five games following a 6-5 loss to Louisiana Tech, who the Colonels defeated last weekend at Southern Miss. Corpus Christi (2-7) heads into the weekend after knocking off Ole Miss' last Friday, 7-4, to snap a five-game skid.
Host ULL is currently undefeated on the season (12-0), climbing up to 12th in the rankings in both national softball polls. Kentucky sits at 7-6 after seeing its three-game winning streak halted by Georgia Southern in extra innings.
