Final Stats

THIBODAUX –
After trailing 7-0 late in the ballgame against ULM, the Nicholls State University softball team scored four runs in the final two innings and brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh but couldn't come any closer as the Colonels fell 7-4 on Wednesday night at the Colonel Softball Complex.

With the loss, Nicholls' (7-20) saw its three-game winning streak snapped. ULM improves to 16-13 on the year.

For the Colonels, Leah Andrus recorded three of Nicholls' 11 hits on the night and drove in three. Ashley Bertot had two hits at the leadoff spot and Ashley Ray finished with a pair of hits, extending her hitting streak to 11 games.

Nicholls dug itself in a hole in the first two innings, recording an error in each frame which led to a 3-0 deficit. In the third, Nicholls had two singles but with two down, ULM starter Haylie Wilson (9-2) forced Ray to flyout to end the inning.

After Nicholls failed to take advantage of a leadoff double by Andrus in the fourth, the Warhawks pounded out five hits in their next two at-bats to go up 7-0.

Nicholls finally got on the board in the sixth when Andrus singled to right, scoring Ray who led off with a double. Ashton Bennett then delivered a one-out RBI single, but Wilson ended the inning with two of her four strikeouts.

In the Colonel seventh, a Ray single loaded the bases with one out, and Andrus came through with a two-run double to make the score 7-4. With runners on second and third, Wilson closed the door on her complete game by getting two groundouts to end the game.

Katie Moulder (4-9) took the loss, giving up two earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Rachael Huggins threw two innings of relief, surrendering a hit and struck out one.

ULM was led by Alexis Cacioppo, who was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Nicholls will return to Southland Conference action when they host Texas State for a two-game series. First pitch for Friday night's opener is set for 6 p.m.
