THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University softball team was held to just four hits against Texas State and the Bobcats took advantage of two errors in the sixth to score two before tacking on one more in the seventh to take game one of the opener, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Colonel Softball Complex.

Nicholls (7-21, 3-4) and Texas State (22-11, 8-1) will wrap up the series on Sunday, with the game set to start at noon.

Katie Moulder (4-10) took the loss for the Colonels, scattering seven hits while giving up one earned run in seven innings of work. The League City, Texas native finished with two strikeouts in her complete game effort.

Rachel Moore led Nicholls with a 2-for-2 day at the plate. Ashley Bertot and Leah Andrus accounted for the other two hits, while Ashley Ray saw her hitting streak snapped at 11 games.

Chandler Hall (12-5) earned the win for the Bobcats, striking out five in her seventh shutout of the season. Selena and Anna Hernandez paced the offense with two hits each.

Both pitchers held the opposing teams scoreless through the first five innings of play. Texas State threatened to score in the top of the second with two on and one out, but Moore made a great diving catch in right field and doubled up the runner at first.

The Bobcats finally broke through in the sixth after loading the bases with one out on two singles and an error. Pinch hitter Courtney Harris then hit a ball to Kat Angeles at short and it deflected off her glove, allowing two runners to score.

Selena Hernandez led the seventh off with a triple and came around to score on a sacrifice fly to right to make it 3-0. Andrus led the bottom half off with a single up the middle, but Hall forced two groundouts before closing the game with a strikeout.
