THIBODAUX  –
Playing in only its third home game of the season, the Nicholls State University softball team hosted LSU in front of a full house on Wednesday night, but the Tigers spoiled the homecoming by plating five runs in the fifth to hand Nicholls a 10-2 loss in five innings.

The Colonels (4-16) were held to four hits, with senior Ashley Ray finishing 2-for-2 with an RBI. In the third, Ray crushed her fifth home run of the season to put her into a 4th-place tie with Danielle Clayton on the Colonel all-time list at 22 career homers.

Leah Andrus, who started in the circle for the Colonels, had a hit and an RBI, while Kat Angeles chipped in with a single and a run scored.

Andrus (0-2) got into trouble in the first, serving up two home runs to make the score 3-0. In the second, she was able to get one back with an RBI single up the middle that plated Angeles.

After LSU (11-7) tacked on a run in the top of the third, Ray cut the lead in half with a towering solo shot to left field.

In the fourth, a leadoff hit-by-pitch led to another run for LSU, making the count 5-2. Following a three-up-three-down bottom half, the Tigers doubled their runs in the fifth on four hits to earn a 10-2 victory in five innings.

Andrus lasted four innings, giving up 10 runs on seven hits with six walks. Her counterpart, Rachele Fico, earned the win for the Tigers, throwing four innings with six strikeouts.

LSU's offense was led by Ashley Langoni with two hits and three RBI's, while Dylan Supak finished with two hits and two RBIs. The duo had back-to-back homers in the first inning.

Nicholls will start its conference slate this weekend with two games on Sunday at UT Arlington. The games were originally scheduled for Friday/Saturday, but have been pushed back to a Sunday doubleheader due to the threat of inclement weather.  First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
