Volleyball Gets Final Pre-Conference Tune-up versus UNO Tuesday

THIBODAUX, La. – Coming off of a 1-2 weekend at the SIU Saluki Invitational, the Nicholls State University women's volleyball team will play its first of three straight home matches on Tuesday starting with the UNO Privateers at 6:30 p.m.

The Colonels sit at 2-6 on the season after defeating UT Martin over the weekend, falling to Southern Illinois and UALR.

Jennifer Brandt was named to the all-tournament team after netting 25 kills and 32 digs over the three games, and is just 37 kills away from becoming the seventh player to amass over 1000 kills in a career.

Another player to watch on the career records list with 276 total blocks is Jessica Addicks. She can become the fifth player in program history to stuff 300 in a career, along with moving into the top five all-time with over 240 assisted blocks in her career.

Brandt currently leads the club with 67 kills, while Amanda Newlin leads the team in average hitting .304. Nancy Taylor has 128 assists, followed by Jeanne Logarbo who has 96 digs for a 3.84 average. Jessica Addicks' 22 blocks are tops on the team, while Jasmine Harris leads with seven service aces.

Among the league, Newlin is eighth in hitting percentage, Taylor is tenth in assists per set with 5.57, Brooke Hopper is ninth with a .32 service ace per set average and Logarbo is ninth with a 3.86 digs per set average.

New Orleans is 3-5 on the season in their final year as a DI Independent. The Privateers will become full members of the Southland Conference next season, as the league expands from a ten to 14-team league in 2013.

Laila Hanson leads the Privateers with 82 kills on the season with a 3.04 kills per set average, as setter Ryan Hamilton already has 204 assists averaging over seven per set. Freshman from Texas Brionne Smith, who is second on the team in kills and leads in hitting percentage, leads the team in blocks with 14, with a dig-by-committee back line with three players averaging over two digs per set.

Nicholls is 16-34 all-time against UNO, with matches dating back to the mid-70's. The two teams have not played one another since 2008, as the Colonels have lost the last four matches to the Privateers.
