Tied at five in the first set, the Golden Eagles rattled off five-straight points, and nine of the next ten total to go up 14-6 to force a Nicholls timeout. Nicholls would pull within five points with the score 15-10, but another four point swing by Oral Roberts in the set gave the Golden Eagles a big enough lead to cruise to the 25-17 win.
The second was all ORU, as the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead and had runs of six points twice in the latter half to win 25-7.
The third was much more competitive as the Colonels forced six ties, all within the first 20 points. With the set tied 10-10, Oral Roberts got the next two points to go up 12-10, with the two teams trading the next three points to make the score 13-12. After that, Oral Roberts scored the next four to go up 16-12, holding the Colonels to just four more points in the set to seal the win.
Nicholls will be back in action next Thursday, hosting the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at 6:30 p.m. in Stopher Gym.
