Nicholls will look to avenge an earlier loss to Louisiana Tech
THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls softball team will step out of conference for three games, starting with a Tuesday doubleheader against Grambling and Louisiana Tech before closing out Wednesday at Alcorn State.

The Colonels (15-18) are coming off a successful homestand, going 5-2 which saw the team win two series in conferences play. During the span, Nicholls hit .296 while the pitching staff held its opponents to a .227 average. Freshman
Hannah Haydel led the Colonels in the circle, going 3-0 to even her season record to 6-6. After picking up the win in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Houston Baptist, Haydel came through in relief on Sunday to earn the Colonels' first save of the season.
On offense, Nicholls is batting .259, which ranks seventh in the Southland. In the homestand, the Colonels had seven players hit over .300, including two who batted .400 or better –
Ashley Bertot (.455) and
Brittany Marcet (.400). Bertot tallied 10 hits and leads the team with a .343 average. Marcet was one of three players to drive in four runs, joined by
Leah Andrus and
Alaina Guidry. Marcet and Andrus lead the team with 17 RBIs.
Nicholls will be playing Grambling (6-23) for the first time this season, while the Louisiana Tech and Alcorn State (7-25) games will be the second meetings. Nicholls fell to the Lady Techsters in the opening weekend, 3-0, and has lost the last four matchups. Against Alcorn, the Colonels lost a 6-1 lead before rallying to defeat the Lady Braves, 10-8.
After the three-game non-conference set, the Colonels will take on rival Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond this weekend. The three-game series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 at 3 p.m.
