Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Nicholls Stunned by Southeastern Louisiana 3-2 on Thursday Night

THIBODAUX, La. Coming off of a five-set victory on Tuesday night, the Nicholls State University women's volleyball team was unable to find the same late-game heroics on Thursday against Southeastern Louisiana University, falling 3-2.

The Colonels (8-16, 4-7 SLC) came out sluggish, falling behind early and dropping the first set 25-22. Nicholls responded in the second, earning a 25-23 set victory and evening the match. The Colonels pulled away in the third set, taking a decisive 25-19 win, and were in position to take the match with momentum in their favor. The Lions (9-14, 6-5 SLC) had other plans, stunning Nicholls with a 25-12 pounding in the fourth to send the match to a fifth set. The Colonels fought back in the final set, leading by as much as five, but a late push from Southeastern La. was enough to secure a 16-14 set victory and seal the contest.

Kaci Eaton led Nicholls offensively with 23 kills and contributed 13 digs. Kalynn Egea had another huge night defensively, finishing with 31 digs and added a season-high seven service aces. Ainsley Marroccoli paced the Colonels with 29 assists, while Alyse Barclay supplied 19.

Four Lion players had 10 or more kills in the match, led by Sarah Friedman with 13. Morgan Todd finished with a team-leading 38 digs, while Mikayla Shippy paced the squad with 45 assists. Rachael Bunn and Tiffany Thomas each had five blocks to lead Southeastern La.

Nicholls will host the University of New Orleans at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Stopher Gymnasium.
