THIBODAUX, La. – Four Colonels scored in double figures led by junior Hope Pawlowski's 17 points but a 17-point first half deficit against Prairie View A&M was too much to overcome as the Nicholls State University women's basketball team fell, 81-70, to the Lady Panthers Tuesday night at Stopher Gym.

The Colonels (1-1) put together a massive comeback after falling behind 36-19 midway through the second quarter. Nicholls outscored Prairie View 22-12 in the third, but two missed free throws at the end of the period allowed the Lady Panthers to maintain the lead heading into the fourth.

Prairie View (2-0) came out of the gate in the final quarter with a 10-2 spurt to take a 66-56 lead and Nicholls was never able to come close than seven points the rest of the way.

After setting a career-high in scoring in the opener, Pawlowski netted 17 again and added six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Jovana Mandic posted a big game off the bench with a career-high 13 points, Cassidy Barrios scored 12 and Sammi Deakin-Sharpe added 11.

Nicholls finished at 42 percent shooting, but made just 30 percent in the opening period and had eight of their 23 turnovers. The Lady Panthers shot 49 percent from the field for the game and held a 41-33 edge on the boards.

PVAMU was led by a game-high 21 points from Lamaria Cole. Larrisa Scott scored 19 points and 14 rebounds, with 10 on the offensive end, and Jeronia Allen added 16 points.

Nicholls will head west for its next game, taking on New Mexico on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Tipoff in Albuquerque is scheduled for 8 p.m.
