TROY, Ala. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team found itself down big early in its second road contest of the season, and like the first, the Colonels were unable to get anything going as they were defeated, 104-51, by Troy on Tuesday night at Trojan Arena.

With the loss, Nicholls slipped to 2-4 on the year and 0-2 on the road. The Colonels have struggled in their two early road tests, falling by an average of 46.5 points. Troy improved to 3-2 on the season and captured its eighth consecutive victory at home.

The Colonels had a tough outing all around, shooting just 25 percent from the field and had a season-high 35 turnovers. Freshman Karrington Brown had a solid game off the bench with a game-high 16 points and Hope Pawlowski scored 11 points, going 7 of 10 from the free throw line.

Troy, which came into the game leading the NCAA in scoring at 95.8 points per game, reached the 100-point plateau for the third time this season – all coming at home and resulting in victories. The Trojans shot a blistering 54 percent from the field and knocked down 12 of 23 from behind the arc. Caitlyn Ramirez led Troy with 16 points, while Rachel Reid and Ashley Beverly Kelley scored 15 each.

Nicholls connected on five 3-pointers, with Brown and LiAnn McCarthy making two each, but misfired 13 times from long range. The Colonels also had trouble at the free throw line, making 12 of 22 for 55 percent.

Nicholls fell behind quickly at 14-2, but Pawlowski ended the drought with a layup before Brown knocked down a 3-ball to cut the deficit in half. The Colonels trailed 19-9 at the end of the first and Marina Lilly made a bucket to start the second to cut it to single digits, but it was all Troy for the rest of the night.

Troy shot 50 percent in the opening half to take a 43-21 lead at the intermission. The full court pressure continued to cause problems for the Colonels, leading to 25 fast break points for the home team. The Trojans built a 37-point advantage after three quarters before going on to claim the victory.

The Colonels will return home to play the first game of a women's / men's doubleheader at Stopher Gym on Saturday, Dec. 5. The women will take on Louisiana Tech at 1 p.m., while the men will square off against Loyola New Orleans at 3:30 p.m.  Nicholls SAAC is partnering with Rouses Markets for a Toy Drive. Any fan who brings a toy to donate will be able to purchase a ticket for the double-header for only $5.
