HOUSTON, Texas. – The Nicholls State University men's tennis team split singles action against Texas-Pan American on Sunday, but the Colonels took the doubles' point to earn a 4-3 victory.
 
Evan Karatzas and Partha Adavelly started things off with a 6-2 win on the No. 3 court and Bernard Wezeman/ Kieran Cronin clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 1.
 
In singles play, the Colonels duplicated their results from their exhibition match yesterday, falling in the No. 1-3 matchups. But Wezeman won in straight sets at No. 3 against Nikola Crvelin and Lukas Clemens also earned a two-set win on the No. 6 court. At No. 5, Cronin and Miguel Alvarez-Hevia battled for three sets until Cronin came away with a 7-6, 5-7, 6-3 victory.
 
"Tough win for the guys today against a very competitive and well coached UTPA team . We executed game plans well and fought hard and it's good to get a tough win before the conference season starts," said Meenakshi Sundaram, Nicholls tennis head coach.
 
The Colonels will return to the courts in the Troy Trojan Jamboree, starting on Friday, Feb. 20.
