THIBODAUX, La.  – After a valiant effort against the nation's top ranked team earlier this week, the Nicholls State University softball team will return to Southland Conference action with a three-game series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Colonel Softball Complex.

Friday's opener is scheduled for 6 p.m., while Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. Live stats are available for all three games, as well as a live video stream via Colonels All-Access.

Nicholls (16-9, 4-2 SLC) took on LSU on Wednesday in the Tigers' first game as the No. 1 team in the country. The Colonels led LSU briefly with a run in the top of the third, however, the Tigers showed why they are on top of the national polls by ending the game with six unanswered runs.

Sophomore Brooke Morris was one of four Colonels to record a hit at LSU, and in doing so she extended her hitting streak to seven games, which is the longest for any Colonel this season. Morris was also responsible for the Colonels' lone run in the loss as her single up the middle gave Nicholls the early lead.

The Colonels saw their batting average dip two points to .309 after the midweek game, but still lead the Southland Conference. Haley Stevenson is third in the SLC at .425, and she is one of only four players in the league hitting .400 or better. Alexis Huss is second on the team with a .377 average and Morris has the third-best average at .354.

Despite taking the loss at LSU, Hannah Haydel heads the team with a 9-4 record in the circle and a 1.77 ERA. Jackie Johnson has a 4-5 mark, a 3.03 ERA and has struck out 51 batters, tying Haydel for the team lead. Taylor Hastings has also made 10 appearances for the Colonels, posting 3-0 record with a 3.37 ERA.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-18-1, 0-6 SLC) will be looking to claim its first Southland win of the season after suffering consecutive sweeps at Central Arkansas and at home against McNeese State. The Islanders also struggled in the non-conference by playing 12 games before recording their first victory of the year.

The Islanders enter the series with a .237 batting average, led by Cosette Hernandez's .324 average. A&M-Corpus Christi has tallied 10 or more hits in three games this season, but has not reached double figures in 10 straight games.

In the circle, Liz Carter has carried the workload for the Islanders, tossing 85 innings for a 3-11 record and a 4.53 ERA. She has also accounted for 52 of the staff's 91 strikeouts.

The Colonels and Islanders split a doubleheader last season in Thibodaux in a pair of extra inning games before the final contest was washed out due to rain.
