JACKSON, Miss. – After winning three straight matches at home, the Nicholls State University men's tennis team put its winning streak on the line on the road at Jackson State on Tuesday and the Colonels came away with a convincing 7-0 victory over the Tigers at the JSU Tennis Courts.
Nicholls (5-7) had little trouble against Jackson State as the Colonels dropped just one set in singles. The team started out with a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point by winning courts 1 and 2.
Lukas Clemens and
Partha Adavelly won 6-4 at No. 1, while
Kieran Cronin and
Bernard Wezeman took the No. 2 court, 6-2.
In singles, Adavelly won the first set, 6-3, against Carlos Martinez at No. 1, but fell 6-4 in the second set. The match went into a tiebreaker, with Adavelly taking the match with a 10-6 win. Clemens had no problem on the No. 2 court against Federico Boscarina, winning 6-2, 6-0 and Wezeman cruised past Miguel Gomez Martin at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Evan Karatzas snapped a six-match skid with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Federico Mendletta at No. 4 and
Sam Meessen took the No. 5 court against Vishu Prasad, 7-5, 6-1. At No. 6, Cronin, who was named Southland Co-Player of the Week, continued his dominant play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Richie Agarwal.
The Colonels will head to Texas for their next three matches, starting Friday at Midwestern State.
