CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Nicholls State University men's tennis team saw its six-match winning streak come to an end as the Colonels were defeated, 4-0, by the No. 40 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Monday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Islanders (13-5, 2-0 SLC) took courts 1 and 3 by the score of 8-4 in doubles for a 1-0 lead before clinching the match with wins in singles on courts 1, 2 and 5. A&M-Corpus Christi won all three singles matches in straight sets, although
Kieran Cronin went extra points in his match against Javier Pujol at No. 5, falling 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
Bernard Wezeman battled to three sets at No. 3 and
Sam Meessen took the first set on the No. 6 court, but both matches went unfinished.
Evan Karatzas also led in the second set of his match at No. 3 before play was suspended.
The Colonels will play their final two matches of the season at home, starting with a conference match against Abilene Christian on Friday, April 3 at 10:30 a.m.
