MANDEVILLE, La. – Rain shifted the Nicholls State University men's tennis team's regular season finale indoors to the Beau Chene Country Club and the change of venue resulted in the Colonels' first home loss of the season as they fell, 4-1, to Lamar on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Colonels wrap up the regular season with a 9-9 record and a 2-3 mark in conference. Nicholls finished in fourth place in the Southland Conference standings and will play conference champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi next weekend in the Southland Tournament in Beaumont, Texas.
 
Evan Karatzas was the lone Colonel to earn a point on the day as he picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win on the No. 3 court against Jeandre Hoogenboeze. Karatzas and Partha Adavelly also led in doubles, but the match was suspended after Lamar took courts 1 and 2. Kieran Cronin and Bernard Wezeman were defeated, 8-5, at No. 1 and Lukas Clemens and Sam Meessen fell, 8-3.
 
Trailing 1-0, Nicholls came up short in the first two singles matches as Nikita Lis defeated Adavelly, 6-1, 6-4, on the No. 1 court and Clemens dropped both of his sets, 6-3, to Michael Feucht. Karatzas was able to take the No. 3 court, but Wezeman was outlasted at No. 4 against Benny Schweizer, 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.
 
The Southland Conference Tournament, hosted by Lamar, begins on Saturday, April 25. The Colonels and Islanders will square off at 2 p.m. For more information on the tournament, visit the official tournament page here.
