Nicholls (9-9, 2-3) and A&M-Corpus Christi (17-6, 5-0), which ranks 60th in the national ITA rankings, will square off at 2 p.m., while No. 2 seed Lamar takes on No. 3 New Orleans. The winner of each match will play for the championship on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Colonels have not had much luck against the Islanders, but as of late, no team in the conference has. A&M-Corpus Christi went undefeated in conference play to earn its eight consecutive regular season title, which included a 4-0 victory over the Colonels on April 7.
Leading the Colonels in singles in conference play were
Kieran Cronin,
Sam Meessen and second-team All-Southland honoree
Lukas Clemens, who each won two matches. Both of Clemens' wins came at No. 2, while Meessen and Cronin each won a match at No. 5 and 6.
In doubles, Cronin and
Bernard Wezeman went 2-1 at No. 1 and the duo was selected to the All-Southland Second Team. As a team, Nicholls went 5-6 overall in doubles in conference play, winning the point twice which resulted in their two Southland victories.
The Islanders are led by three-time Southland Conference Player of the Year Peter Nagy. Overall, Nagy went 17-2 in No. 1 singles which included a perfect 5-0 mark in the Southland. Nagy has led the Islanders to 18 consecutive victories in the regular season in conference play.
