Kryshell Rolle and senior
Tessni Carruthers were each named to the Southland Conference Cross Country and Track and Field All-Academic Team, the league announced Thursday.
A Nassau, Bahamas native, Rolle makes her first appearance on the SLC All-Academic Team. Rolle was also named Third-Team All-Southland at the conclusion of the 2015 outdoor season. She finished third in the 400-meter hurdles to lead the Colonels at the SLC Championships in Hammond.
The announcement caps of an outstanding season for Rolle, who earned three-consecutive first-place finishes in the 400-meter hurdles at the McNeese Springtime Classic, the LSU Alumni Gold Track Meet and the Northwestern State Invitational. Rolle turned in the fastest time in the conference this year, running a 59.87 in Baton Rouge.
She was recognized as the Southland Women's Track Athlete of the Week on April 22.
Rolle currently maintains a 3.70 GPA in Accounting.
Carruthers makes her third appearance on the SLC All-Academic Team, and concludes her Colonel career as the most decorated cross country athlete in school history. This season she had four top-ten finishes, coming in 1
st at the UNO Relays, 4
th at the LSU Cross Country Invitational, 2
nd at the Mississippi College Invitational and 4
th at the Disney Cross Country Classic.
Over her time at Nicholls, the British Columbia, Canada native was named to the 2013 Women's Cross Country and Track And Field All-Academic Team, the 2013 LSWA All-Louisiana Cross Country Team and the 2013 All-Southland Conference Cross Country team. She was also the 1500-meter run champion and named First-Team All-Southland Conference in 2013. Carruthers owns the school record in the 1500-meter run, 5000-meter run, the 6000-meter run, the mile run and was a member of the record-setting distance medley team.
Carruthers graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Communicative Disorders and is looking to pursue a Masters in Canada.
"I'd like to thank my parents for creating a positive, sport-filled atmosphere throughout my childhood," Carruthers said. "Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought I'd end up in Louisiana running track and field at a Division I institution. The people I met, not only through athletics, but also academics, specifically the communicative disorders department, were welcoming, supportive and a pleasure to be around for four years. I'd like to thank Nichols for an exciting and overwhelming experience!"
