Final Results
NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – Playing in his first collegiate tournament for the Nicholls State University men's golf team, freshman
Jack Lee closed out the UNO Invitational with a 1-under 71 in the final round to finish in a tie for third Tuesday at the ArborLinks Golf Course.
Lee's second 1-under of the tournament helped lift Nicholls three spots to fifth place in the 12-team field. Despite windy conditions, the Colonels carded a 296, which was one stroke better than their lowest round of the tournament. Nicholls finished with an even 900 (307-297-296), tying host Nebraska-Omaha. Iowa Western took the team title with an 877.
Lee entered the final round at 1-over and in a tie for seventh in the individual standings. He started the day by sinking three birdies in the first four holes and following a double on hole 8, birdied hole 9 to finish the front 1-under. On the back, Lee had two birdies and two bogeys to stay at 1-under for the round as he finished even after 54 holes.
Sophomore
Tye Smith followed up his solid first day with an even 72. He had a birdie and a bogey in both the front and back to go along with 14 pars. Smith ended the day in a tie for 14th with a 223 (+7).
Another freshman,
Ludovico Durante, also put together his best round with a 73 (+1). Durante eagled a par five on hole 4 and added two birdies on the back.
Albert Badosa-Soler shot a 77 to finish third on the team with a 229, followed by
Josh Fullilove with a 79 for a 235. Durante carded a 242 for the tournament.
Taking the individual crown was Green Bay's Joe Duchateau with a 212 (-4).
Nicholls will return to the links next week in the Husky Invitational, hosted by HBU. The first round of 36 holes will start on Monday, Sept. 21.
