ABILENE, Texas – The Nicholls State University volleyball team was held to its lowest hitting percentage in league play as the Colonels dropped their season finale, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22 and 25-18), against Abilene Christian at Moody Coliseum on Thursday night.
The Colonels finish the season at 8-24 overall and 3-13 in the Southland. ACU improved to 11-19 on the season and 10-5 in conference.
Nicholls hit just .076 in the loss, which was its second-lowest output of the season. Playing in their final match for the Red and Gray,
Kali Schwartz led the Colonels with nine kills, while
Kaci Eaton tallied eight. Nicholls had 31 kills in the setback and finished with 22 errors.
The Colonels' best set came in the second as they raced out to a 7-1 lead after dropping the first by eight points. Eaton and
Emily Weimer had a kill each in the early going before ACU responded with a 6-0 run to tie the match. From then on, it was all Wildcats as they grabbed an 18-11 advantage en route to taking a 2-0 lead on the night.
In the final set, ACU took the lead for good at 4-3 and went on to sweep the Colonels for the second time this season.
Freshman
Emily Venable dished out 19 assists, while
Alexa Perry had a team-high 12 digs. Schwartz also finished in double figures in digs with 11.
