SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Nicholls State University baseball team will look to get back on track with a three-game Southland Conference series against Incarnate Word in Military City this weekend.
 
The Colonels (12-19, 3-9 SLC) will face the Cardinals (7-22, 2-7 SLC) at 6 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday before closing out the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
 
Nicholls is coming off of a two-game non-conference series loss at the hands of Lamar. The Colonels fell, 7-2, on Tuesday before suffering a 14-10 loss on Wednesday. Nicholls held a nine-run lead in game two, but the Cardinals scored 13 unanswered runs to steal the victory.
 
Incarnate Word experienced a 4-3 defeat against UT Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday. In the Cardinal's most recent league matchup, they dropped two of three games on the road at Houston Baptist.
 
The Colonels hold a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series against Incarnate Word and earned a three-game sweep of the Cardinals last season in Thibodaux.
 
Gavin Wehby leads Nicholls offensively with a .301 average, 17 runs and 13 RBIs. Joey Morales paces the squad with 32 hits, while Dylan Manichia has a team-high 16 RBIs. Ethan Valdez leads Nicholls with 23 runs and 10 stolen bases.
 
Brance Kahle spearheads the Incarnate Word offense with a .307 average, 27 hits, 17 RBIs and nine runs scored. Bryce Shepherd and Ryan Gonzalez each have a team-high 12 runs on the year.

Following this weekend's action the Colonels will travel to Baton Rouge for a date with Southern at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Nicholls will then host a three-game Southland series against Central Arkansas, beginning at 6 p.m. on April 15.
