Colonels Drop 2-1 Shortened Decision against LA Tech

THIBODAUX, La. – A header by Taylor Douglas cut the Nicholls State University soccer team's deficit in half against Louisiana Tech, but the Colonels were not able to find the net again before Sunday's matchup at the Nicholls Soccer Complex was called due to lightning, giving LA Tech a 2-1 victory.

LA Tech (7-1-1) was the aggressor in the match, outshooting the Colonels 13-2 and held a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks. Kathryn Sloan put the Lady Techsters on the board just 16 minutes into the match, and Jordyn Rolli snuck one in off a corner kick at the 36:52 mark in the half.

Right before the break, the Colonels' Anna Gourgues sent a perfect cross towards the net to Douglas, who headed it past the LA Tech goalkeeper for her first goal of the season.

Following intermission, LA Tech had the half's only shots, misfiring three times.

With just under 20 minutes remaining in the match, lightning struck close by, causing a minimum 30-minute delay. Although the rain held off, lightning continued to flash and the match was officially called. The match becomes official if 70 minutes or more have been played.

Freshman Roosa Hurmerinta had three saves for the Colonels as her record slipped to 2-2 on the year.

The Colonels return to action on Friday, Sept. 16 as they host Lamar University in Southland Conference action at 4 p.m. For the most up-to-date information on Nicholls soccer visit geauxcolonels.com and be sure to follow the team on Twitter @Nicholls_SOC.
