JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The struggles continue for Nicholls State University volleyball team as it came up empty for the weekend with losses to Kennesaw State, 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-10) and Evansville, 3-1(25-20, 19-25, 25-17, 25-20) at Jacksonville State.
The Colonels' (4-11) losing streak extended to seven, with their last win coming at home against Southern on Aug. 31. Nicholls will play its next two matches in the friendly confines of Stopher Gym, hosting Central Arkansas (Sept. 22) and Northwestern State (Sept. 24).
Against Kennesaw (5-8), the Colonels had just 23 kills in the three-setter, hitting at a .099 clip.
Stephanie Tobison, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the Colonels with six kills.
The Colonels won their second set of the weekend in the 3-1 loss to Evansville, helped by an outstanding effort by
Kali Schwartz with a match-high 16 kills. But Nicholls hit .000 in the third set, and .056 in the fourth to stay winless for the weekend.
Nicholls had eight more kills than Evansville (4-9), getting eight each from Tobison and
Emily Weimer. Tobison led the team with 21 digs, while
Lucija Barac had 24 assists.
Thursday's matchup against Central Arkansas is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Admission to all home volleyball matches is free of charge.
