SAN ANTONIO – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team was outshot 17-7 against UIW as the Colonels fell in a 3-0 decision on Monday at Benson Stadium.
The loss put the Colonels at 3-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the Southland, while UIW upped its record to 3-5-1 and 2-1 in conference.
Hannah Savoie led the team with two shots, but neither was on goal.
Emily Werenskiold and Ali Ward were credited with shots on goal as UIW goalkeeper Haley Nelson saved both attempts.
Roosa Hurmerinta faced eight shots on goal for the Colonenls, allowing all three goals in the second half.
After a scoreless first period, UIW's Ana Camp put the Cardinals on the board with a header at the 49:35 mark. Thirteen minutes later, Brooke Hanson found the net for a 2-0 lead.
With just over 10 minutes remaining in the match, Sabrina Martineau put to rest any chance of a comeback with UIW's third and final goal of the afternoon.
Nicholls will return home for its next two contests, starting with a Friday (Sept. 30) matchup against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 4 p.m.
