THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team picked up its first win in conference play in thrilling fashion as
Hannah Savoie's goal two minutes into overtime lifted the Colonels to a 2-1 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday afternoon at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.

Jess Coates gave Nicholls (4-4-1, 1-2-1 SLC) the early lead with her team-high seventh goal of the season, but the Islanders (0-11, 0-4 SLC) forced the extra period after Shayla Spearman chipped in a goal with eight minutes remaining in regulation.
In the extra period, the visitors cleared a corner kick before
Blaire Laiche found Savoie for the game-winner, improving the Colonels' home record to 3-1-1 on the year.
Nicholls outshot AMCC 13-10 for the game, including a 2-0 advantage in OT. Savioe led the Colonels with three shots (two on goal).
Roosa Hurmerinta picked up the win for the Colonels, saving six shots in 91-plus minutes in the net.
Coates, who headed into the match as the Southland's leader in goals, added to her total with a rocket from 20-yards out from the left side of the box. Coates' goal came at the 36:24 mark in the first half for the 1-0 lead.
Jordan Wainwright suffered the loss for the Islanders as she tended the net in the second half and overtime. She finished with three saves and allowed the one goal.
Nicholls will host Houston Baptist on Sunday to conclude its home weekend. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
