NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Nicholls State University soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Stephen F. Austin Sunday at the SFA Soccer Field.
The Colonels fell to 5-9-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the Southland Conference while the Ladyjacks improved to 9-6 and 6-2 in league play.
Nicholls and SFA each recorded 10 shots. The Ladyjacks generated seven shots on goal while the Colonels managed six.
Sophomore midfielder
Elisabet Gunnthorsdottir provided a spark off the bench with a team-high three shots including two on goal. Hurmerinta totaled four saves.
SFA's Mari Gillespie found the back of the net in the 16th minute on a free kick from about 36 yards out. The attempt deflected off the hands of sophomore keeper
Roosa Hurmerinta and into goal.
The Ladyjacks scored again in the 20th minute when Katelyn Termini converted a Breanna Moore cross from the right wing.
Sabrina Segovia tacked on an insurance goal in the 87th minute. She tucked the ball into the bottom-right corner from inside the 18-yard box.
Nicholls concludes its regular season slate with three home matches, beginning at 4 p.m. Friday versus Central Arkansas.
