THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University soccer team ceded two goals in the second half of a 2-0 defeat to UCA Friday at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.

The Colonels (5-10-1, 2-6-1 SLC) recorded four shots, including three on goal. Senior Emily Werenskiold, junior Francesca Curteis and sophomore Kristy Helmers each made an attempt on goal.

The Sugar Bears (9-8, 4-5 SLC) received one goal apiece from Alex Moore and Autumn Schwartz. Schwartz totaled a team-high four shots in 57 minutes.

The momentum shifted to UCA towards the end of the opening half as the Sugar Bear maintained possession and pressured offensively. Ashley Smith connected with Moore inside the 18-yard box as she easily slotted the attempt past sophomore keeper Roosa Hurmerinta in the 59th minute.

In the 79th minute, the left-footed Schwartz bended a corner from the right-wing into the top-right portion of the net.

Nicholls looks for a result in its next match Sunday against Northwestern State. Kickoff for Senior Day at the Colonels Soccer Complex is set for 1 p.m. CT. The Senior Day Ceremony is currently set for 12:35 p.m., but that may be altered if inclement weather ensues.
