Colonels suffer heartbreaking double-overtime loss to Southeastern Louisiana Friday

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University soccer team ended its 2017 campaign Friday at the Nicholls Soccer Complex after a Southeastern Louisiana University goal with 31 seconds remaining in the second overtime period.

The Colonels (6-11-1, 3-7-1 SLC) held off eight shots before the golden goal as sophomore Roosa Hurmerinta totaled seven saves. Junior midfielder Francesca Curteis created the most chances, taking five shots including two on goal. Curteis' best attempt came on a free kick in the first overtime, but her shot sailed just high.

The Lady Lions (5-10-3, 3-6-2 SLC) goal came from Maddie Kresevic on her only attempt of the match. Sofia Olsson laid the ball off in the box as Kresevic slotted it past Hurmerinta. Christina Cutura applied most of the pressure for Southeastern as she finished with eight shots and five on target.

With the loss, Nicholls is eliminated from Southland Conference Tournament contention.
