THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to McNeese State University Friday evening at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
Junior midfielder
Francesca Curteis led the Colonels (5-8, 2-4 SLC) with two shots, both on goal. The Llanfyllin, Great Britain, native nearly scored in the 23rd minute, but her long distance attempt was collected by the Cowgirls (9-3-1, 5-1 SLC) keeper.
Senior midfielder
Mie Elvestad and sophomore forward
Jessica Shelby also tallied a shot. Sophomore keeper
Roosa Hurmerinta totaled five saves.
McNeese's Savannah LaRicci tallied her seventh goal of the season in the 40th minute. She weaved around a few defenders before slotting it over the head of Hurmerinta. LaRicci also assisted on the Cowgirls' goal in the second half, as she dropped the ball off to Emilee Mayes who put the ball in the back of the net.
The Colonels return to the pitch Friday at Sam Houston State on a 7 p.m. kickoff.
