BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Coming off of its highest scoring output in the last 22 years, the Nicholls State University basketball squad faces Western Kentucky University Sunday evening at E.A. Diddle Arena.
Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. CT. The contest will be nationally televised on Fox College Sports Central with Randy Lee on the play-by-play and Hal Schmitt providing color analysis. Fans can also listen to the Voice of the Colonels,
Bryant Johnson, on ESPN 100.3 FM.
The Colonels (2-1) posted 127 points against Spring Hill College, the most since the 1993-94 season. The Colonels drained a school-record 19 threes and received 20-plus points from seniors
Lafayette Rutledge (23) and
Roddy Peters (20).
Nicholls is averaging 105.0 points and 14.0 3-pointers per game. Rutledge has shot the three at a 52-percent rate, sinking 13 of 25. Peters is the Colonels' leading scorer at 18.7 ppg followed by fellow senior guard
Tevon Saddler's 16.3. Listed at 6-6, Saddler also fronts the squad with 5.0 rpg.
This will be the third consecutive home contest for the Hilltoppers (1-1) to start the season. Using six double-figure contributors, WKU topped Kentucky Wesleyan 83-53 for its first win of the year. Dwight Coleby led the charge with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Two-time All-Conference USA selection Justin Johnson has contributed 23 boards in the first two games, a big factor in the Hilltoppers' +6.5 rebounding margin.
