Colonel Men’s Tennis falls to Florida A&M, 6-1

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's tennis team hosted Florida A&M for a nonconference matchup Friday and was defeated, 6-1, at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
 
Nicholls lost a hard-fought point for doubles, falling in two matchups by two points each and leading in the unfinished match. The singles matches were close as well, with Bernard Wezeman coming away with a victory at No. 1 for the Colonels' lone point of the day.
 
The loss dropped Nicholls to 4-5 on the season, while Wezeman improved to 5-4. The Colonels' top three players in singles, Wezeman, Sam Meessen and Oleksander Podgursky, all have a 5-4 mark on the season.
 
Although Meessen and Podgursky both came up short Friday against the Rattlers, three of the four sets ended at 7-5. Another close match for the Colonels in singles came at No. 5 as Cornelius Schramm fell in a three-setter, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-5).
 
Wezeman's victory was in straight sets as he defeated Carlos Waitman, 6-2, 6-3. Wezeman and Meessen also led in doubles at No. 1 before the match was suspended following FAMU clinching the point with victories on the other two courts.

The Colonels return to conference action against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday, March 15. First serve in Corpus Christi is scheduled for 2 p.m.
