MEN'S RESULTS
 
THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's and women's tennis teams were both in action Saturday and both squads came up short. The women's team dropped a Southland Conference match at Sam Houston State, 6-1, while the men were defeated at Southern Miss, 7-0.
 
For the women's match, the Colonels (6-9, 1-8 SLC) were swept by Sam Houston (8-10, 5-3 SLC) in all of the completed matches, with 
Lingfeng Gu winning on the No. 1 via retirement. Gu was leading 2-0 in the first set before Fabienne Gettwart retired.
 
Clemence Krug won a set in the No. 2 singles match as she took the second in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 setback against Ema Barkovic. Krug and Gu were also part of a close match in No. 1 doubles as they went into a tiebreaker against Carrie Casey and Mila Milanovic before falling 7-6.
 
For the men, Southern Miss improved to 17-4 on the season by dropping just one set in singles after sweeping doubles. 
Bernard Wezeman took Daniel Merker to three sets at No. 2, falling 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
 
With the loss, Nicholls slipped to 5-9 on the season.

The men close out the regular season with Senior Day on Friday, April 14 against Lamar. The women play at Lamar tomorrow (April 9) at 1 p.m.
