GRAMBLING, La. – The Nicholls State University soccer team managed a 59th-minute goal from redshirt senior
Kirstie Champagne and stellar defense in a 1-0 win at Grambling State University Friday at the GSU Soccer Complex.
Champagne rebounded and netted the game-winner off Lady Tigers (1-2) goalie Jordan Woodward after a strong free kick attempt from fellow senior
Mie Elvestad.
Sophomore
Roosa Hurmerinta earned her first clean sheet of the season, but the defensive backline for the Colonels (1-2) caused her to rarely be tested. Hurmerinta saved the only shot on goal as GSU only attempted six total shots. Elvestad generated three of Nicholls' nine shots.
The Colonels look to make it two consecutive wins Sunday when it faces Jackson State at 1 p.m. inside the JSU Soccer Complex.
