HOUSTON - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team completed a successful trip to Houston over the weekend in the Texas Tamale Invitational, hosted by Rice University.
 
Overall, the squad combined for 11 victories in singles action, and four wins in doubles play. Alvaro Barranco Vilaltella paced the team with a 3-1 singles mark in the C Draw. Moritz Borges and Nestor Giribet Lopez also won two matches each in the D and B Draws, respectively.
 
In doubles, each duo won a match in their respective draw, with Tobias Lentz/Giribet winning their opening match against Louisiana-Lafayette.
 
"I'm pleased with the results, overall," said Nicholls head tennis coach Greg Harkins. "We had some quality doubles wins, and also in singles, very solid days from Barranco and Borges. Dylan Loru's level of play was also promising. We were able to see what it's like to play at the highest levels for us to compete within the conference and the national levels. We're going to keep working to improve across the board."
 
In a loaded field for the invitational, the Colonels were matched up against players from Southland members Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UIW, along with Tulane, host Rice, Army, Louisiana-Lafayette, Denver, Prairie View A&M, and UTSA.
 
Nicholls will return to action on Oct. 17 in the ITA Regionals in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
