NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Junior
Heidi Carpenter registered her eighth double-double of the season as the Nicholls State University volleyball team dropped a straight-set decisioin to Stephen F. Austin, 25-21, 25-20, 25-16, Saturday at Shelton Gym.
The Mesa, Arizona, native totaled 16 assists and 11 digs and added seven kills. Freshman
Katie Jones pummeled a team-high eight kills while freshman
Aaliyah Burras and sophomore
Kimberly Iwunze chipped in seven and six kills, respectively.
The Ladyjacks (23-2, 10-0 SLC) were fronted by Haley Coleman's match-high 10 kills. Anyia Williams accumulated six kills and five blocks.
Jones pounded four kills in the opening set, but three consecutive points by SFA in the first set lifted the Ladyjacks to a set-one victory. Iwunze converted five kills in 10 attempts in the second as three straight Colonel (3-21, 1-10 SLC) errors opened the door for SFA to take set two. A kill by Carpenter gave Nicholls a 15-14 edge, prompting an 11-1 run as the Ladyjacks sealed the match.
Nicholls closes the regular season with four of its final five matches in Stopher Gym, commencing with UIW Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
