CONWAY, Ark. – Winners of nine of the last 10, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team travels to UCA for a midday Saturday battle at the Farris Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on ESPN3.
The Colonels (17-9, 11-2 SLC) prevailed 86-79 at home on Jan. 13 against the Bears as
Roddy Peters managed a game-high 21 points and the combination of
Kevin Johnson and
Jahvaughn Powell held Jordan Howard, the SLC's top scorer, 0-8 from 3-point range.
Joining Howard atop the league's scoring charts is Peters, who ranks second at 19.1 points per game. Peters has tallied double figures in 11 straight games and 20-plus in eight of those.
The Colonels historical season continued with a 73-72 victory over Sam Houston State on Wednesday. Nicholls has its best conference record through 13 games since 1998. Considering league play, the Colonels have the SLC's top scoring margin (+10.3), field goal percentage (.499) and field goal percentage defense (.406).
UCA is on the heels of a 76-72 loss to McNeese at home despite double-doubles from Mathieu Kamba (25 points; 12 rebounds) and Hayden Koval (10 points; 12 rebounds). The Bears boast the highest scoring offense in the league at 84.0 points per game.
