THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team dropped a 2-1 decision to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Wednesday night at Russo Park.
Junior starter Jake Bedevian (0-2) turned in the Colonels' (1-7) first quality start of the season, allowing one earned run in 6.2 innings. The Houston native struck out five and walked four, riding a no-hitter through 5.1 innings.

Landon Powell smacked a one-out double to right field. The Colonels outhit the Ragin' Cajuns 7-4 but got just two knocks in 17 chances with runners on base.
UL-Lafayette (3-5) scored a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Kennon Fontenot and another in the seventh on an RBI single from Gavin Bourgeois. Lefty Cole Schmidt (1-0) picked up his first win of the season on five hits and six strikeouts in seven innings of work. Logan Stoelke notched a five-out save, recording one walk and one strikeout.
Nicholls travels to the Cox Diamond Invitational this weekend, battling Ohio State Friday, Eastern Michigan Saturday and Southern Miss Sunday. All games will be played at the Blue Wahoos Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Reds Double-A affiliate.
