THIBODAUX, La. – In the midst of a seven-game winning streak, the Nicholls State University softball team faces Stephen F. Austin this weekend at Swanner Field.
(Updated March 16) The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday commencing at 5 p.m. and a 1 p.m. finale on Saturday.
Nicholls (16-7, 3-0 SLC) walloped Mississippi Valley State in a doubleheader Tuesday, outscoring the Devilettes 17-3 between the two contests.
Yasmeen Williams ended the day 4-for-6 with five RBIs.
Right-handed ace
Megan Landry posted seven strikeouts in 12.0 innings pitched. Landry, a Pierre Part native, enters the weekend 9-3 with a 2.04 ERA.
Alexis LaBure was also stellar as she struck out eight in 5.1 innings to improve to 4-3 on the year.
At the plate, the Colonels are fronted by
Kasey Frederick (.371) and
Amanda Gianelloni (.370). Gianelloni boasts a team-high four home runs and 20 RBIs while Frederick spearheads the squad with eight doubles.
The Ladyjacks (14-9, 3-0 SLC) ride a six-game winning streak into Thibodaux, sandwiching a series sweep over Corpus Christi between two wins over Prairie View A&M. Bryana Novegil is hitting .525 with eight extra-base hits, and Amber Landry has crushed a team-high seven homers, contributing to 25 RBIs. Makayla Sikes has a team-best 15 pitching appearances, holding a 7-5 record with a 2.76 ERA and 23:15 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
