THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University softball team will aim to stay perfect in league play as the Colonels put their 10-game winning streak on the line against rival Southeastern Louisiana. The three-game series will be played at North Oak Park in Hammond.
Friday's game, set for 5 p.m., will be streamed live on the Southland Digital Network at www.southland.org/live. Saturday's noon doubleheader can be watched by signing up for LionVision on Southeastern's website.
The Colonels (19-7, 6-0 SLC) have been rolling in the last couple weeks, posting a .350 batting average during the current winning streak. The pitching staff has been just as impressive with a 2.16 ERA and a .221 batting average. The run started with two wins against North Texas, and Nicholls added a pair of wins over Mississippi Valley State after sweeping HBU to begin conference. Last weekend, the Colonels came out on top in three 1-run decisions to sweep SFA.
Coming off being named Southland hitter of the week, freshman
Kelsey Miller carries a six-game hitting streak into the matchup and is 11-for-22 at the plate in the last 10 games. For the season, she is batting .333 and is one of seven Colonels with a .300 or better batting average. Leading the way has been the junior duo of
Amanda Gianelloni and
Kasey Frederick. Gianelloni has a .370 average with 22 RBIs while Frederick stands at .367 with 20 RBIs. Frederick fueled the Colonels in their last outing, driving in all three runs on extra-base hits.
Megan Landry picked up three more wins last week, improving her record in the circle to 12-3 while posting a sparkling 1.82 ERA. Landry's control has been outstanding with 75 strikeouts versus only 12 walks, which ranks 23rd in the NCAA. Freshman

Southeastern (17-11, 4-2 SLC) has its own hot streak, winning its last five after sweeping a doubleheader over Alcorn State Tuesday. The Lady Lions have lit up the scoreboard during the streak, totaling an astounding 61 runs in the five games. In their series sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, SLU took the games 17-5, 16-2 and 9-4.
Ali McCoy heads the lineup with a .386 batting average, while Mahalia Gibson has a .333 average with seven home runs and 28 RBIs. In the circle, the staff has a 3.28 ERA and is led by Rachel Hayes at 2.72 with a 5-5 record. Lacey Hill has the most wins at 7-3, and Tanner Wright is 4-1 with a 2.90 ERA.
