Colonel men’s tennis falls to UIW, 5-2

MATCH RESULTS

THIBODAUX, La. –
Oleksander Podgursky and Néstor Giribet Lopez continued their winning ways in singles, but the Nicholls State University men's tennis team suffered its second loss in league play with a 5-2 defeat against UIW Saturday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

Lopez won his fourth consecutive singles match at No. 6 while Podgursky took the top court for the third straight time.

"We had some individually highlights from Sasha (Podgursky) and Nestor, but we're still struggling to be consistent from beginning to end and top to bottom," said Greg Harkins, Nicholls tennis head coach. "Every match is tough, and the stakes are even higher in conference matches, but our fate is in our own hands. We're doing some good things and growing up fast, but at the same time we're learning as we go."

UIW won the top two courts in doubles, 6-3 and 6-2, to take the 1-0 lead. But Lopez evened it up with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Caleb Dyer.

The Cardinals then picked up a win at No. 2 by Gabriel Evans before Podgursky made it 2-1 Colonels with a 7-5, 6-0 victory against Francisco Bendana. UIW went on to win the final three matches in straight sets for the 5-2 victory.
