THIBODAUX, La. –
The Nicholls State University baseball team got a three-hit performance from senior Kyle Knauth and redshirt junior Brady Bell's first career homer to pull away from Alcorn State University Tuesday night in a 13-6 win at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.

The Colonels (12-21) amassed 12 hits from nine different student-athletes and multiple RBIs from four. Graduate student Christian Bahlinger picked up the win in relief, improving to 2-1 as he tossed 2.2 innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts.

The Braves (8-23) were led at the plate by Der'Vincent Hamilton and Kyle Jenkins, who recorded two hits apiece. Alcorn starter George Osborne III was handed the loss, falling to 0-5 on eight earned runs through six innings.

The Braves took an early 2-0 advantage in the first inning when Hamilton stroked a two-out, two-RBI single down the left-field line. Nicholls quickly responded with two runs in the bottom half to tie it up via an RBI single by Knauth and a bases-loaded double play by senior Lee Clark.

Clark and Knauth also accounted for the Colonels next two runs as the former smacked an RBI single through the right side in the third inning and the latter plated fellow senior Ethan Valdez on a groundout in the fifth to give Nicholls took a 4-2 lead.

Alcorn regained its edge in the sixth when a throwing error by Bell and a half-swing blooper by A.J. Makarewicz with the bases loaded fell into shallow center field resulted in a 5-4 turnaround.

Nicholls found an answer in the bottom half when Valdez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie it at five. The Colonels' offense then exploded for eight runs in the seventh, highlighted by Bell's three-run homer and a two-RBI double down the left-field line via freshman Dane Simon, to take control at 13-5.

The two teams will face off again Wednesday at the Did. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
