THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team faces Mississippi Valley State University Wednesday at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.  

The concession stand will feature Weenie Wednesday with $1 hot dogs available. The Colonels (14-23) are 4-0 on Weenie Wednesday and 8-0 at the Did in non-weekend games.

Nicholls dropped 2-of-3 to UIW this past weekend in San Antonio, squeezing a 5-2 victory between two heartbreaking 7-6 losses. The lone win came behind 8.1 strong innings from senior righty Cayden Hatcher. Junior infielder Ethan Valdez has reached base in 16 consecutive games, batting a team-high .344 during that stretch.

The Delta Devils (10-20) bounced back from an 18-6 loss to Jackson State University in their series opener by putting together 11-7 and 3-2 triumphs. MVSU is 2-15 away from home this season. Aaron Barkley has been a superb utility player for the Delta Devils, putting together a team-high .303 batting average at the dish and a 1.32 ERA through 13.2 innings on the mound. He has three saves as the team's closer.   

The Colonels have won five straight over MVSU dating back to 2016.
